Giving

We think one of the most magical parts of Christmas is the spirit of giving, thus it’s important we embrace the Christmas spirit and support a group that we believe truly exemplifies this quality.

This year we will be donating $1 from every door sale to Arohanui Hospice.

About Arohanui Hospice

Arohanui Hospice provides specialist end-of-life care to patients who have life-limiting conditions, and also extends support to the patient's family throughout the illness and after death. Hospice care is holistic, encompassing the physical, psychosocial, spiritual and current needs of the patient and their whānau. The hospice provides services to more than 800 patients and their families each year in the Manawatu, Tararua, Rangitikei and Horowhenua districts, supporting a population of approximately 200,000.  At any one time, the hospice team are supporting 200-250 patients and their families.
Our patients have high and complex needs, and come to us with a wide spectrum of illnesses, including cancer, heart disease, renal disease and motor neurone disease, to name a few. Community support is vital to ensure that our patients continue to receive the best quality care, which is provided free of charge at our inpatient unit, in the patient’s own home, or at an alternative comfortable environment.
Arohanui Hospice is only partially funded by the Ministry of Health and is therefore seeking to redress a $2.3 million shortfall in our core operating funding in the current financial year alone.  We sincerely appreciate the generous support of our community, who enable us to continue to deliver end-of-life care to patients who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness from which recovery is not anticipated.
To address the significant funding shortfall, Arohanui Hospice delivers a comprehensive programme of fundraising events and campaigns each year.  This includes the region-wide network of hospice shops, the Farming for Hospice programme, applications to charitable foundations and trusts, and a series of events including the Michael Higgins Charity Golf Tournament, the Black Tie Ball and the bi-annual Hearts and Homes tour.
